Absolut Vodka got its start in Sweden around 1879 when Lars Olsson Smith wanted to challenge the local vodka monopoly that was in Stockholm. He created a way to make vodka by just using winter wheat, water, and yeast. He created a filtering method that removed the contaminants such as glut from the distillate.
Once we poured a couple of glasses we realized how clear and colorless this vodka was. It was like looking into a glass of water and no impurities in it.
The nose presented a neutral spirit as it should with a hint of nail polish remover. The small hint of acetone was light enough that it was not overpowering or off-putting.
On the palate, it was short and simple with the neutral aspects of it. There was a slight alcohol bite to it but that wasn't harsh.
Absolut Vodka is a step up from Smirnoff but not fully sure what else we would place it above since we don't just sip vodka by itself. Although it would be a good start to make a cocktail out of as well.
