Recently, we received a free bottle and rocks glass from The Famous Grouse as part of our shipment from Flaviar. Although we had never tried it before, we were eager to give it a chance. As some people say, "we will try anything once". Interestingly, The Famous Grouse's origins date back to the early 1800s, and they dabbled in various products such as wine and even snuff before producing distilled spirits.
In terms of appearance, it had a clear, medium, golden color, which could be likened to a slightly darker Bud Light (though, in our opinion, it is much better than Bud Light). On the nose, it had a clean, light to medium intensity with notes of slight honey, malt, light peat/earthiness, and a very faint oak aroma.
The palate was where this spirit really stood out for us. As you may know, we are not typically big fans of the Scotch category, but this one surprised us with its sweet taste. It had a medium consistency that was both warming and watery, with no thick consistency at all. The flavor intensity was medium, and it was semi-complex, with a short finish that left a tingle in the back of the throat - almost like a twofer.
This is a bottle that we will definitely keep around and buy again once it runs out, especially when we have friends over who keep asking for an invite to drink our fine selection. Yes, Brad, we are talking about you! If we had to rate this bottle, we would give it a 3.6 out of 5.
