To start off our adventure of tasting various different wines we decided check out our local ALDI since they do offer wine and from previous experience they have been good in the past. We found a unique looking bottle that had some olde world charm to it. It is the Grande Alberone Rosso which is a red wine that has been cask aged. According to the producer they use grape varietals from the Trentino, Venezie, Puglia, and the Sicilia regions of Italy. The tag line reads "Italy in a bottle" so the grape varieties make sense even though I wish I had some pasta while drinking it.

Right off the bat the aroma from the glass comes out with red and black fruits as the primary with hints of blackberry, cherry, raspberry, and a slight cranberry. The cranberry I was getting reminded me of the cranberry sauce that comes out of a can on Thanksgiving that wiggles like Jell-O. Since it is a cask aged wine the normal aromas do peak out from behind the curtain. It was the vanilla, charred oak, and smoke. Deep down in the glass the smells of tobacco, leather, and dry fall leaves start to come out. The taste of the wine brings very similar flavors of what you would expect from the aromas of the wine. There is a hint of a tartness that comes out that could be associated with the cranberry. Once it is poured into the glass it presents with a deep ruby color and a medium intensity of primary aromas on the nose. Overall we thought it was a an off-dry medium body, medium finish wine that is good overall.

On the label for the bottle it states the it is rich and full, showing flavors of cherry and blackberry, with hints of raisin. According to the Vivino app it has a 3.8 star rating with over 11 thousand reviews. We would buy this again and pair it with some pasta or a red meat dish.
